CONDUCTING FELLOWSHIP
The Vernon Chorale provides a wonderful opportunity for fledgling conductors. Once a candidate has been selected, he or she works under the tutelage of the Artistic Director to prepare and conduct works with the Chorale for the winter and spring concerts. The Conducting Fellow also has the unique experience of planning and executing an entire program for the annual June concert. This acts as a platform for young, talented conductors to explore concert preparation and rehearsal coordination; with one-on-one time with the Chorale, the Conducting Fellow is able to build confidence and a résumé. Today, graduates of our Conducting Fellow program are teaching and performing all over the world and one moved into the role of Artistic Director of the Vernon Chorale.
Working with the Vernon Chorale over the past two years has been life-changing, to say the least. Under Ehren's patient guidance, I've not only grown as a musician but also as a leader, honing my rehearsal techniques and gaining valuable insights into concert production and choral organization management. These weekly interactions have strengthened my communication skills and cemented my ability to inspire and motivate others. Moreover, the position has allowed me to refine my score study, conducting gesture, and other general conducting skills. Ehren's supportive approach ensures growth without fear of failure, while the Chorale’s members exude a welcoming aura of positivity, enriched by their vast musical knowledge and diverse perspectives. Conducting with the Vernon Chorale has been transformative, providing me with a huge head start on my career. I am incredibly grateful for every moment spent with the choir, as this experience has shaped me into the person I am today.
